Vegan Montanara Balls Recipe

These little flavour bombs are a Neapolitan street food classic: fluffy fried pizza dough topped with tomato sauce, creamy Casadei Foods Plant-Based Stracciatella, and fresh basil. They’re crispy, indulgent, and the ultimate way to enjoy our plant-based cheese.

Easy Dough Recipe

Ingredients (for 8 balls):
    •    500g strong bread flour
    •    325ml water (room temperature)
    •    7g dry yeast
    •    10g salt
    •    1 tbsp olive oil
    •    Sunflower or vegetable oil (for frying)

Toppings:
    •    1 cup tomato sauce (simple passata with olive oil + pinch of salt works great)
    •    200g Casadei Foods Plant-Based Stracciatella
    •    Fresh basil leaves

Method:
    1.    Make the dough: Mix flour, yeast, and water until combined. Add salt and olive oil, knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
    2.    Shape: Punch down dough, divide into 8 balls. Let rest 30 minutes.
    3.    Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan to 170°C. Fry each dough ball until golden brown and puffed (about 2–3 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
    4.    Top: Spoon tomato sauce on each fried dough ball. Add a generous dollop of our vegan stracciatella and a basil leaf.
    5.    Serve: Eat while hot — crispy outside, fluffy inside, creamy on top.
